The Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) was used by the United States during the 20th century. The primary variant of the BAR was the M1918, chambered in .30-06. The BAR was designed to be carried by advancing infantrymen, slung over the shoulder or fired from the hip, a concept called “walking fire.” It served throughout WWII and the Korean War by US troops and then given to ARVN troops during the Vietnam War.
